And the work continues....

I'm currently finishing up the Machinima music vid using HL2 that I started back in December. Between my dad's passing and a couple of issues with FacePoser, the production has been on standby since right after the holidays. This week, I've captured more HL2 footage using FRAPS and am now back to editing the piece, leaving placeholder segments for the singing G-Man (and man, can he sing!). While this music vid isn't anything ground-breaking, it should give folks interested in developing Machinima with HL2 a small idea of what can be done. To that, I suspect that we'll see quite a few of these vids in the months to come - a number of Machinima pieces that are driven by walking/talking/singing HL2 characters.

On the editing side, I've been using Vegas Video 5 (I previously worked in Premiere and some FCP here and there), and I have to say that I like it quite a bit. I still prefer the UI of Premiere, but there's something about VV that makes editing a bit more "simple." I can't really put my finger on it, but there it is. Still, I will probably upgrade to Premiere Pro (only $199 from my 6.5 version of Premiere) as I hear its now very similar to FCP. Decisions, decisions...

Anyway, depending on when FacePoser is fixed (Mike at Valve said they've fixed the problem and it will be included in the next update - this week from what I understand), I hope to have the vid completed sometime shortly thereafter - fingers crossed. (c:

On a wholly unrelated matter, next month, immediately following the Game Developers Conference (and my friend Manu's LAN party), I will be in Atlanta participating in Georgia Tech's Living Game Worlds Symposium honoring Will Wright. While there, I will take part in a panel to discuss the future of entertainment, representing the world of Machinima in that conversation (obviously). I believe the event is open to the public, so feel free to register and stop by if you live in the Atlanta area.

P.S. Some 2005 Machinima Film Fest news soon, I promise! (c:
