Machinima Film Fest deadline approaches - October 6th!

Just a quick head's up that the Oct. 6th Machinima Film Festival deadline nears. Yes, like a big looming obelisk, with those words etched in. If you're working on Machinima film for the fest, stop reading now and get back to work so you can submit it ASAP. If you know of someone who has created something cool and you think it would be a good piece for the fest - get on them about sending it in.

And for those hoping that we will extend the deadline -- not a chance, unfortunately. We're really to wire this year, and the Oct. 6th deadline doesn't give us a lot of time to prep the films for judging and have them reviewed before the fest. Sorry about this, but that's the way it goes.

That said, we've seen some cool entries so far, and look forward to the push of films that will come in the next few weeks. And if you think you'll be attending the festival, shoot us a mail so we know to keep an eye out for ya.

btw, official press release for the festival is here. Look at us, all professional and whatnot (c:

State of Play Virtual Architecture Competition

From the not-exactly-Machinima-dept: this year's State of Play conf (which is one of my yearly faves) is holding a virtual public space competition, giving you architect archetypes a chance to shine. The competition is looking for the best public, democratic or civic architecture in a virtual world. The first place prize includes a trip to this year's SoP (Oct 6th-8th), work featured in the SoP issue of First Monday, and $500 cashola (that's real US dollars, btw).

More details can be found here. The competition deadline is Sept. 28th, so get crackin' on submitting those hawt hoods you've hammered out.
