Fest-tastic!
Well, we're less than 24 hours out from this year's Machinima Festival, taking place again at the spectacular venue - the Museum of the Moving Image. I'm currently sitting in the studio of WBAI, a local radio station here in New York, where in about 30 minutes I will be interviewed by Harry Allen for their show, NonFiction.
This week has been extremely busy one (yes, an obvious statement), but we're all really looking forward to this weekend. This year, we've expanded the event into a two-day affair - to both screen more works in their entirety, but also to accommodate more panels and discussions around Machinima. In this year's program, we're holding panels about creative interfaces as well as intellectual properties around Machinima. As one of the organizers, it will hard to sit in on the discussion, but its definitely one that I would like to available for. Additionally, we have strucutred the weekend with specific focus in mind. Saturday looks at Machinima in a broad context, where as Sunday is a day about Machinima from a practitioners POV.
And sandwiched inbetween all of this is the pinnacle of the weekend, the 2006 Machinima Awards, taking place on Saturday evening at 9pm.
Of course, if you cannot make it out to the festival, we'll have a presence in Second Life as well. Last evening, we held a preview of the festival, with several nominees in attendance - such as Phil Rice (Male Restroom Etiquette), Jon Griggs (Deviation), Harrison Heller (Machinima! With Officer Dan) and Jackie Turnune (Stolen Life). It was great having everyone shared a screening in the virtual space, about works made in like spaces. Major kudos to AMAS volunteer Rik Panganiban (managing the event from Greece!) and Jerry Paffendorf and Jonah Gold of fest sponsor The Electric Sheep Company.
Ok, I'm off to talk up the fest on-air. If you're attending this weekend (and if not, why not??) stop by and say hello!
